Mira Loma Dance Marathon 2009 (MLDM09) was the first high school organized Dance Marathon supporting a Children’s Miracle Network hospital in the entire West Coast. With a very successful start, Mira Loma Dance Marathon donated $5238 to Children’s Miracle Network at UC Davis Children’s Hospital, Sacramento

Our mission is to help UC Davis Children’s Hospital, Sacramento provide treatment to children in Sacramento valley needing critical care, promote research for diseases like Juvenile Diabetes, and establish outreach programs for underserved communities in our region and promote healthier lifestyles.

Mira Loma Dance Marathon is a completely youth organized event to create awareness for healthcare needs of children in the Sacramento valley.

Childrens HospitalUC Davis Children’s Hospital is a world-class pediatric hospital devoted to the health of babies, children and adolescents. Because we’re an academic medical center, we benefit from a full-time physician staff, many of whom are members of the faculty of the UC Davis School of Medicine.

With over 120 physicians in 33 pediatric subspecialties, UC Davis Children’s Hospital is the most comprehensive pediatric hospital in the Sacramento region, offering compassionate, family-centered care in a healing environment.

Who is Children’s Miracle Network?

Childrens Miracle NetworkChildren’s Miracle Network is a non-profit organization that raises funds for more than 170 children’s hospitals. Countless individuals, organizations and media partners unite with Children’s Miracle Network hospitals to help sick and injured kids in local communities.

Donations to Children’s Miracle Network create miracles by funding medical care, research and education that saves and improves the lives of 17 million children each year.

MLDM Committees

The most rewarding experience you can get from Mira Loma Dance Marathon is by joining a committee. Below are descriptions and the contacts for the various committees. Each committee needs several volunteers to support the many things they have on their plate to accomplish organizing this huge fun event.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee oversees the entire arrangements for the Mira Loma Dance Marathon. They interface with external parties such as school administration, San Juan Unified School District, Children’s Miracle Network and UC Davis Children’s Hospital. They approve decisions and plans made by individual committees.

Location & Security Committee

This committee selects the venue for the Mira Loma Dance Marathon and makes all arrangements to hold the event. They ensure that the event will be safe for everyone and all of us can enjoy this event. They also control the access to the dance floor and various activities during the main event. They are also responsible for converting Mira Loma into a Dance Marathon site by decorating.

Event Committee

The Event Committee makes the Mira Loma Dance Marathon a fun event for everyone participating and the UC Davis Children’s Hospital families. They identify the activities and contests that are held for the Mira Loma Dance Marathon.

Fundraising Committee

This committee seeks donations to support Mira Loma Dance Marathon and manages all the fundraisers that generate funds for our beneficiaries. In short, they are the financiers of this great event and its success! They set the rules for fundraising and develop target lists of sponsors.

2010 Leaders: Sandhya Jetty

Publicity/Public Relations Committee

This committee serves as the liason for all public relations within Mira Loma, San Juan Unified School District, and external sources including press. The Publicity Committee creates press releases, posters, flyers, newsletters, etc that inform students, administrators, staff, beneficiary families and sponsors about the progress of activities related to Mira Loma Dance Marathon. This committee plans and conducts all informational meetings and acts as liason for other clubs and the student government.

Food & Catering Committee

One of the most important things during Mira Loma Dance Marathon is the food that keeps all the dancers and volunteers up on their feet. This committee is trusted to estimate and plan all food and catering arrangements. They coordinate with parent volunteers, food vendors, grocery stores, pizza stores, coffee shops, bakeries, etc to make arrangements for food and to keep us all well fed during the main event.

Dancer Relations Committee

The Dancer Relations Committee establishes, publishes and enforces all rules and policies for Mira Loma Dance Marathon. Their main responsibilities are dancer registrations, dancer information meetings, dancer preparations and training, and dancer sign-ins on the main event day.
